Background

The African Development Bank (AfDB) is conducting a Business Opportunities Seminar (BOS) on 20-21 June 2017 on AfDB financed projects. BOSs are one-stop fora for consultants, contractors, manufacturers, and suppliers from the Bank Group’s member countries looking to provide goods and services to AfDB Group projects in Africa. BOSs help strengthen the relationship between the AfDB and its shareholders. Sectors to be covered are the Bank’s High 5 priorities, in particular, infrastructure (energy, transport), water and sanitation, agriculture and human development.

Objectives

The BOS is intended for participants to:
  • Learn about the Bank Group’s strategic directions, operational priorities, project pipelines and ongoing sovereign and non-sovereign operations;
  • Hear about the Bank Group’s financial products and instruments;
  • Meet with Bank Group sector (and if requested, regional) specialists;
  • Meet with Bank Group staff in procurement, project management and related operations;
  • Network with other consulting firms and suppliers in non-regional and regional member countries of the Bank Group;
  • Listen to presentations on how to qualify for AfDB-financed contracts; and
  • Discover what business opportunities are available, and where across Africa.
At the end of the BOS, participants would have:
  • Discovered the advantages of AfDB-financed contracts;
  • Obtained a sound understanding of the AfDB's policies and procedures for the procurement of goods and works, and the recruitment of consultants;
  • Learned how to locate business opportunities;
  • Learned the best ways to prepare responsive bids and proposals;
  • Received first-hand information on contracting opportunities by sector currently available under ongoing AfDB-financed projects, and upcoming AfDB pipeline projects by region; and
  • Explored areas of cooperation with other participants at the BOS.
Expected Outputs

The BOS expects to increase the pool of competent providers of goods and services that can qualify for AfDB projects, thereby contributing to the efficient implementation and ultimate success of Bank Group-financed projects.
